Last February a friend and I went hiking/camping/field daying at Hoosier National Park. That's the page I never linked up -- I just added the QSL cards.

Server has been down for a while. Moved, disk died, re-installed with FreeBSD 4.11-RELEASE. Everything is happy now. I think.
System update: Upgraded (re-installed) on a new disk to FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE
Two years ago I started a projected I dubbed 'Moving Abomination.' The idea was to make a go-kart of sorts with a spud-gun attached. The first year (summer) the main frame was built. The second year (summer) it was decided that the MA needed leaf springs. This summer with the help of friends I've actually got some work done. See the Moving Abomination page for more details.
Better late than never (for my yearly update). Right now I'm just working on different projects, learning about different things, playing boardgames, and enjoying life. If I ever produced an ounce of content for pound of learning I'd like to think I'd have a decent webpage. Well maybe not.
Since my last update I've been involved Comedy Central's BattleBot show. It's rather interesting that I acutally went out to San Fransisco to compete as I don't really like the TV show, but Doug said that he just needed some EE's to go over some wiring which ought to take a short amount of time and not be too much of a commitment. After 10s of hours of work on the robot later which consisted of writing some embedded code, making a steering feedback circuit, sleeping in the lab at school twice in near allnighters I found myself driving the robot straight into a well at Battle Bots on Treasure Island. As much as I dislike the mediaziation/commericalization that happens to the program, the contestants were really great people and it overall was a good experience. You can find out more about our robot Paydar at the clubs webpage
So as you might guess my driving the robot into the wall pretty ended our rise to the top in the first round. Tragic because our robot design was of the nature of the winning robots and if the other robot hadn't moved I would have hit it and most likely killed it. Our point of failure was that our wedge (we were able to bolt on different weapons to our robot, we chose the wedge for this fight) got bent up underneath our robot and lifted the steering wheel of the ground. On the bright side we knocked a spike off, but from then on Paydar just thrashed back and forth, to and fro doing damage to the arena (bending spikes over) until a spike went through the wedge and stuck us to the wall permenently.
